Voice Checks

Rather than auditions, the Cal Chorale holds voice checks at the beginning of each semester. You can sign up for your voice check below. Please sign up for the earliest appointment time that you can make. If you are unavailable for any of these times, contact Rebecca at rseeman@berkeley.edu to schedule your 15-minute voice check:

Voice Checks will consist of vocalizing to check your vocal range, a few aural exercises (pitch matching), and simple sight-singing. You are not expected to know how to read music or to be an expert sight-singer to sing in Cal Chorale and we welcome singers with significant musical backgrounds as well as those who have never sung in a choir. 

Voice checks take place in Rebecca’s office (43A) in SMA (Student Musical Activities) in the Caesar Chavez Basement. Directions:

– Walk to the Sather Gate

– Walk down along the creek toward downtown Berkeley (creek and redwoods on your right, on the Sproul side of the gate), 

– Turn left down the stairs into SMA (if you get to Alumni House, you’ve gone too far)

– Once in the building, walk down a few stairs and turn left down a long hallway

– Second door on the left is the 43 suite. Walk inside and 43A is on the left.
